News-Herald welcomes new advertising director

Rebecca Hill is the new advertising director of the Suffolk News-Herald, according to an announcement by Andy Prutsok, publisher.

Hill comes to the News-Herald from Charter Communications in both Suffolk and Richmond, where she worked as a group-marketing manager.

A 1995 graduate of Old Dominion University with a Bachelor of Science degree in speech communications, Hill began her newspaper career as an account executive at The Virginian-Pilot. She also was a director of marketing at Mainquad Communications, a radio group in Richmond.

&uot;My background has always been in media and marketing, and I feel my experience has well-prepared me for this new role and its responsibilities,&uot; said Hill, who has also worked at WHRO. &uot;There’s tremendous growth potential for the paper, and for our advertisers to convey their marketing message. I believe the News-Herald is a fine community resource of news and information.&uot;

In her new position, Hill will be responsible for all retail advertising.

&uot;We’re excited to have a person of Rebecca’s talent and experience on our team,&uot; Prutsok said. &uot;Her enthusiasm and knowledge of Suffolk will be a tremendous asset to our paper and our advertisers.&uot;

Hill’s outside interests include crabbing, boating, fishing, and &uot;mud-mucking&uot; on the Mobjack Bay. She also writes children’s stories for her nephew, Hunter, and younger cousins Chelsea, Emily, Katie, Alex, and Tyler. This fall, she will volunteer as a Girl Scout troop leader for the Colonial Coast Girl Scout council.

Hill’s husband, Michael, will be a sixth-grade science teacher at John F. Kennedy Middle School this fall. The couple resides in Suffolk.
