The Lakeland golf team moved its record to 3-1 with a 315-372 defeat of Franklin Tuesday at Smithfield Downs. Franklin’s Matt Hopkins was the meet’s medalist with a score of 73.

Holland Athletic Assoc. signups end Aug. 24

The Holland Athletic Association will have player registration for football and cheering at the ballfields in Holland from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday (practice will then be held from 10 a.m. to noon). Sheriff’s Office softball tourney starts Sept. 21

The Suffolk Sheriff’s Office will hold a women’s slow pitch softball tournament on Saturday, Sept. 21. The entry fee is $150, and eight teams will compete. Deadline to sign up is Sept. 13. Smithfield softball team to hold tryouts Sept. 14

A Smithfield select softball team for girls age 10 and under is being formed. Tryouts will be held at 2 p.m. Sept. 7-8 at Nike Park for all positions except pitcher and catchers. Pitching and catching tryouts will be at 2 p.m. Sept. 14 at Nike Park. Tournament team selection will be made by Sept. 17.
