Lady Cavaliers lose big on Astroturf, 8-0

The Lakeland field hockey team suffered its worst defeat in two seasons on Tuesday afternoon, falling 8-0 to host Tallwood. &uot;Our inexperience in playing on turf hurt us,&uot; said Lakeland coach Tara McClen-ney, &uot;but we’re still not doing the basic things to win.&uot; The Lady Cavaliers (3-2, 0-0) will head to Oscar Smith next Wednesday.

Hunt wins medallist honor again in Warriors victory

Nansemond River defeated host Indian River 350-380 at golf on Monday afternoon. Warrior Greg Hunt won his third medallist honor of the season with a score of 71. Nansemond River will head to Deep Creek today at 1:30 p.m.

News-Herald suspends baseball publication

Effective Aug. 27, the Suffolk News-Herald will cease publication of major league baseball scores and statistics. This is done in response to the upcoming strike in the major leagues, which is scheduled to begin

Friday.

&uot;We’re not going to waste space on games that won’t mean anything if this strike ends the season,&uot; explained sports editor Jason Norman. &uot;If the strike is averted, we’ll be glad to start running scores and stats again.&uot; Those with questions or comments are encouraged to call 934-9614.
