Smither smashes in three as Lady Cavaliers win

Katelyn Smither knocked in a hat trick and had an assist as Lakeland tore through host Western Branch 4-0 at field hockey on Wednesday. Becky Salmon had a goal and assist for the Lady Cavaliers, who will take on Tabb on Oct. 11.

Witt’s double-overtime goal gets 3-2 victory

Ashley Witt scored in double overtime as Nansemond River handed host Great Bridge its first district loss of the season Wednesday, defeating the Lady Wildcats 3-2. Heather Belch and Ali Mowry also scored for the Lady Warriors (8-4, 4-1), who will host Oscar Smith on Wednesday.

Saints fall to Trinity Episcopal on the court

Trinity Episcopal defeated visiting Nansemond-Suffolk Academy 25-21, 25-23, 22-25, 25-14 at volleyball on Wednes-day, knocking the Saints down to 3-6. Nansemond-Suffolk will head to Norfolk Collegiate on Friday.
