Cheer Fund kicks off with #036;1,300

Billy Chorey of Chorey & Associates Realty really put the icing on the cake recently when he provided the Toys for Tots Program with a storage place for toys. He added the cherry on Friday with a $1,000 donation to kick off the Suffolk Cheer Fund Program for the year 2002.
The contribution is given in loving memory of T. Vincent Chorey, Rozanne Brown and Rick Andrews.
&uot;I consider it a privilege and appreciate the opportunity to be involved in the &uot;kick off&uot; for the Suffolk Cheer Fund this year and also to provide my Dad’s former automobile dealership on West Washington Street as their distribution center,&uot; said Chorey.
The Suffolk Cheer Fund not only provides an obvious blessing to those local children who are less fortunate, but it also affords a mechanism whereby the relatives and friends of those who contribute can be publicly remembered and honored.
&uot;I also want to make a personal ‘challenge’ to my friends and business acquaintances to consider this year’s Cheer Fund in their current annual giving, and I realize that many other organizations are requesting help even as I speak,&uot; he said.
Chorey added that there are many worthy organizations including the Suffolk High School renovation, United Fund and others.
&uot;Even though I have personally made a major three year commitment to a &uot;very dear&uot; building fund, the Cheer Fund is an entity that helps right now and, in my opinion, should neither be excluded nor ignored by Suffolk folks who are in the position to help,&uot; said Chorey.
The Suffolk Christian Church is another big supporter of the Cheer Fund, and has made a donation of $200 from its Mission Ministry. ViTex, another supporter, came through with a $100 check also and we are very appreciative that these people and organizations are setting the pace to reach our goal of $37,151. This money pays for new toys for 1,653 underprivileged children in Suffolk.
Frank Rawls, a local attorney, is once again the chairman of the Cheer Fund, and Bill Ashley is also the coordinator of the Toys for Tots program. Donations to the fund from local businesses and citizens from the community are used to finance toys that have already been ordered by Ashley and his committee.
You or members of your organization may also have a picture published with your donation just as Chorey did. No stipulation will be put on the amount donated to take a picture as it has in the past.
The picture will be published in the Suffolk News-Herald Cheer Fund Section of the paper as a way to challenge others to do the same.
