Cheering Lady Cavaliers qualify for March event

The Lakeland cheerleading squad took second place at the Eastern Open Regional competition at Norview High School last Saturday. The Lady Cavaliers also took first at the Eastern Cheerleading Association (EC-A) regional championships on Nov. 9 at Ocean Lakes High School.
These finishes qualified Lakeland for the ECA tournament in March at William and Mary College in Williamsburg.
Nansemond River to host charity game Friday
The Nansemond River varsity basketball team will host a benefit game at 7:30 p.m. Friday when they take on Eastern District powerhouse Lake Tay-lor.
The game will raise funding for both schools and the Virginia High School League. Admission is $5, and no passes will be accepted.
Lakeland to hold charity games Nov. 26
Lakeland will host a pair of benefit game on Thursday, Nov. 26, beginning at 6 p.m. Verona High School will battle Norcom High School in the first game, while the Cavaliers will face Hopewell in the second game, scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.

AAU teams to hold tryouts at 10 a.m. Saturday
The Suffolk AAU Boys Basketball 11-and-under team will hold tryouts at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Mack Benn Elementary School. For more information, contact Ricky Joe at 925-4778.
‘Canned Food’ games set for Nov. 23-27
The East Suffolk Federated Civic League will be holding its 18th annual &uot;Canned Food Thanksgiving Basketball Tournament&uot; Nov. 23-27 at Booker T. Washington Recreation Center.
Eight teams of ages 9-12, 13-17, and 18-and-above will be allowed. Teams may have a maximum of 12 players. All team members are required to bring a canned food to each game. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Suffolk Rescue Squad and all food will go to non-profit organizations. Call 539-6069 or 539-9407.
Soccer, basketball signups end Nov. 23
Registration for the Parks and Rec. Department indoor soccer and basketball leagues will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturdays until Nov. 23 at the Mack Benn, Oakland, King’s Fork, and Northern Shores recreation centers. The cost is $35 for novice (5-7) and $40 for Pee-Wee (8-10) and Midget (11-13). For more information, call 923-2360.
