Louis F. Hines

Louis Fenton Hines, 102, a resident of Nansemond Pointe, Suffolk, died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002. He was born on June 19, 1900 in Boykins, Southampton County, Va.
Mr. Hines was a long-time resident of New York City and operated his real estate brokerage business there. He was a real estate owner as well as an appraiser and consultant to several financial institutions in the New York City area.
After retirement, he and his wife resided in Richmond. They later moved to Wilson and Greenville, N.C., and then spent his last several years in Suffolk.
He was the son of the late Angus Henderson and Anna Eads Hines, and was predeceased by his wife, Lillian Moore Hines, nine brothers and three sisters.
He is survived by a daughter, Marilyn H. Coefield of Greenville, N.C.; granddaughter, Gretchen Ashley Moore, and great-granddaughter. Lauren Ashley Moore, both of Cary, N.C.; many beloved nieces and nephews.
The graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14 in Beechwood Cemetery, Boykins, with the Rev. Michael D. Halley officiating. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.

Betty J. Jones
Ms. Betty Jean Jones, 56, of 612 Chisholm Lane, Suffolk, died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002, in her residence. She was a native of Suffolk, and a daughter of the late Johnnie and Mrs. Otelia Jones.
She had retired from Birdsong.
Surviving are four sons, Kevin Jones of Suffolk, Darryl Jones of Newport News, Charles Jones of Smithfield, and Clifton Steward of Norfolk; one brother, Melvin Watford of Norfolk; seven sisters, Shirley Parramore, Grace Green, Teressa Chapman, and Ollie Morris of Bridgeport, Conn., Queen Watford of the Bronx, N.Y.; Mary (Honey) Johnson of Merry Hill, N.C., and Margaret Morings of Suffolk; a great aunt, Mrs. Marie Everett of Suffolk; and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Tabernacle Christian Church by Dr. Carlton R. Upton Sr. Burial will be in Nansemond-Suffolk Cemetery.
At 9 a.m. Monday the body will be taken from Peebles Funeral Home to the church.
David W. Nelms
David W. &uot;Tater Bug&uot; Nelms, 84, of 731 Babbtown Rd., Suffolk, died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, at his residence. A native of Nansemond County, he was a son of the late Phenious David Nelms and Emma Rebecca Nelms. He was also predeceased by a brother, P.C. Nelms.
He had retired as a sheet metal shop foreman for Gold Kist Inc.
He was a member of Cypress Chapel Christian Church, the Men’s Bible Class and former deacon.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Irene Babb Nelms of Suffolk; sister, Ruby A. Nelms of Suffolk; brothers, Fred L. Nelms and Ray H. Nelms, both of Suffolk; several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Becky B. Case and the staff of Heartland Hospice Care for the care and compassion that was given.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15 in Cypress Chapel Christian Church with Dr. John Kimball and Dr. Willis Dowling officiating. Interment will be in Cypress Chapel Christian Church Cemetery.
