Flossie M. Barrett

Early Thursday morning God dispatched his angels and called home our beloved mother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, Flossie Mae Barrett. She was born on May 24, 1921 to the late John Sugars and Martha Akins in Garnett, S.C.

Flossie was the wife of the late Harvey Barrett Sr.

She was a faithful member of Metropolitan Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board.

She was employed for many years at Old Dominion University.

Flossie leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her life four sons, Robert L. Whitney, Harvey Barrett Jr. (Victoria), Charles E. Barrett (Deborah), and Presidee Barrett (Karen); three daughters, Marthia Giles (Eddie), Vivian Cummings (Gene), and Jacqueline J. Barrett; one brother, Willie Sugar; four sisters, Minnie Watson, Alberta Tasha, Ernestine Majett, and Lillian Miller; 22 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The funeral will be held at noon Wednesday in Metropolitan Baptist Church. Interment will immediately follow at Carver Memorial Park.

The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Viewing will be held from noon to 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday in T.E. Cooke-Overton Funeral Home, and a wake will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in funeral chapel. The family will assemble at 11 a.m. Wednesday at 1229 Lake Kennedy Dr., and will receive friends at all other times at this address.
