Alvin M. McBride

Alvin Maurice McBride Jr., 74, of Suffolk, died Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, at his home surrounded by his family.

Born on Dec. 18, 1928, in Richmond, he was the son of Arline Stanley McBride of Suffolk, and the late Alvin Maurice McBride Sr.

Mr. McBride was employed by International Paper as an instrument mechanic for 43 years. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Firemen and Oilers Local 176.

He was a longtime member and deacon of West End Baptist Church, a member of Magnolia Ruritan Club and the Tidewater Protective Association.

Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, Betty Lou McKenzie McBride; sons and daughters-in-law, Alvin M. McBride III and Becky, W. Bennett McBride and Julie, all of Suffolk; sisters, Ravis M. Carter, Anita Muriel McBride and Bobbie M. Davis, all of Suffolk; grandchildren, Alex, Diana, Bridget, Maci, and Ian McBride.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in West End Baptist Church by the Rev. T. Floyd Irby with burial in Holly Lawn Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home.

Jack R. Parker

Jack Riddick Parker, 76, of Suffolk, died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, in Obici Hospital.

Born on Oct. 12, 1926, in Somerton, Va., he was the son of the late William John and Hilda Powell Parker. Mr. Parker retired after 37 years at the Coca-Cola Company.

He was a member of Somerton United Methodist Church and the emulator Sunday School Bible Class.

He served in the Merchant Marines and Army.

Mr. Parker is survived by his wife, Jackie P. Parker; sons, Bill Parker, his wife Debbie, and Riddick Parker; daughters, Kay Nelson, her husband Billy, and Susan Baines and husband, Keith; grandchildren, Will and Kristi Parker, Justin and Chase Nelson, Parker and Morgan Baines, all of Suffolk.

He was predeceased by his sisters, Blanche C. Cox and Catherine Morgan.

The memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in the Somerton United Methodist Church by the Rev. Dan Armstrong and the Rev. Jonathan Palmer.

The family will receive friends at the home.

Jedd B. Wright

Jedd Bradshaw Wright, 26, of Suffolk, died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, in Obici Hospital.

He is survived by his father, Melvin Bruce Wright, and his mother, Terrie Lynn Riddick and her husband, James, of Suffolk; a sister, Jennie Gray of Baltimore, Md.; his paternal grandmother, Edna Wright of Suffolk; and maternal grandparents, John B. and Jennie Dale Smithwick of Carrollton.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Ebenezer United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dan E. Gray officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
