Alphas install officers

The Zeta Epsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. recently met in the educational building at Metropolitan Baptist Church on County Street and installed officers for 2003-2005. The installation was done by the assistant membership chairman, Bertha B. Turner.
Officers are as follows: Dorothy Diggs, president; Tracie Knight, vice president; Deborah Austin, secretary; Vicki Milan, assistant secretary; Jennifer Ledbetter-Phillips, corresponding secretary; Cynthia Graves, assistant corresponding secretary; Avis Blow, treasurer; Vivian Pruden, financial secretary; Barbara Shelton, assistant financial secretary; Martha Harris, sergeant at arms; Landi Willie, official hostess; Julia Liggins, chaplain; Jean Wiggins, Ivy Leaf Reporter; Demeatrice Reed, historian; Melinda Boone membership chairman and Bertha B. Turner, assistant membership chairman.
The sorority’s purpose is to serve to mankind. Community service that was performed recently involved several Thanksgiving baskets given to the underprivileged, and a coat give-away was held at the Suffolk Shelter for the Homeless.
The sorority was incorporated at Howard University in 1908 and includes 50 members from Smithfield and Suffolk.
Its colors are apple green and salmon pink.
