Jannie L. Wilson

Jannie L. Wilson of Hempstead, N.Y., died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003. She was born on Jan. 4, 1939 the youngest of 14 children to the late Clara Parker Harris and Jessie Harris of Ivor.

She was a devoted member of Antioch Baptist Church in Hempstead. There she served as a dedicated deaconess after moving from Suffolk, where she also served as a deaconess at the Metropolitan Baptist Church.

She obtained her education from the Southampton County and Suffolk schools in Virginia.

She leaves to mourn her passing her beloved husband of 43 years, Deacon Rufus Wilson; her daughter, Lavern Van Ommeren; son-in-law, Stanley Van Ommeren; one daughter-in-law, Barbara Ann Wilson of Suffolk; two sisters, Clara Johnson, Jamaica, N.Y.; Isabel Williams, Queens Village, N.y.; one brother, Samuel Harris of Suffolk; four grandchildren, Matthew, Miranda, Monica Van Ommeren, and Jerome Wilson Jr.; and several nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

She was predeceased by a son, Jerome Wilson Sr.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Metropolitan Baptist Church by Dr. Robert Hobbs.

Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery.

The family will be at the home of Queen Ratcliff, 226 North Sixth St., Suffolk.
