Jerry Plan (right), 16, a black belt instructor at Wayne Spencer’s Warrior Club tae kwon do class (which meets from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Suffolk YMCA) placed first in forms and full combat sparring at the Friendship Tae Kwon Do Tournament Feb. 1 at the Chesapeake Conference Center. Hosted by Master Doug Grant of Grant’s Family Martial Arts Center, the annual event drew roughly 400 competitors from Virginia, North Carolina, and Maryland. Plan also won the Grand Championship in sparring.
