Woman killed in collision

A former Nansemond River High School died when her car hit a tractor-trailer in northern Suffolk early Thursday.

The accident happened around 2:30 a.m. when Krystina Elizabeth Boone, 18, of 4654 Schooner Blvd., drove her 1997 Kia through the stop sign at the intersection of Breezeport Way and U.S. Route 17, said Officer Michael E. Simpkins, spokesman for the Suffolk Police Department. Boone, on her way home from working a late shift at Wendy’s, died at the scene.

The accident happened when the car got trapped under the wheels of a tractor-trailer passing by and was dragged approximately 200-300 yards before coming to a stop in the 3900 block of Bridge Road, he said.

Daniel Ronnie Wilson, 52, of Hampton, who was driving the tractor for Gwaltney Foods, was uninjured.

No charges have been filed in the accident.

Police have not said whether Boone was wearing a seat belt.

Tom McLemore, principal of Nansemond River, remembered Boone as a good, enthusiastic young person.

&uot;She was a good kid, … who never got into any trouble,&uot; said McLemore. &uot;She was one of those kids who was ready to get on with life.&uot;

Boone recently earned her General Equivalency Diploma through the Pruden Center for Industry and Technology ,and was slated to begin classes at Tidewater Community College in August. She was hoping to pursue a veterinary career.

Boone was the niece of Suffolk Police Detective Anthony Boone and the granddaughter of former Portsmouth Police Chief Ronnie Boone.
