Luther W. Wilkins

Luther Woodrow Wilkins, 88, of Suffolk, died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003.

A native of Nansemond County, he was the son of the late Willie Thomas Wilkins Sr. and Lucy Skinner Wilkins. He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Sue Turner Wilkins, and his daughter Dorothy W. Knight.

He had retired as a salesman for Norfolk Packing Co., and was also a barber in the Suffolk community for many years.

He was a member of Liberty Spring Christian Church in which he was a Deacon Emeritus, a member of the Men’s Bible Class and Laymen’s Fellowship. He participated in the Liberty Spring and Bethlehem Senior Citizens Club. He was also a charter member of the Liberty Spring Ruritan Club. He was announced the church’s &uot;Father of the Year in 1996. He was a member of the Nansemond Masonic Lodge No. 77.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte W. and Lynn K. Pierce of Chesapeake; and a son-in-law, James R. Knight of Newport News; and three grandsons, Jeffreey K., Justin L. and Joshua R. Pierce, all of Chesapeake.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 10, in the Liberty Spring Christian Church with the Rev. Dolan A. Talbert officiating. Burial with Masonic rites will be in Liberty Spring Christian Church Cemetery.

Friends may join the family from 2-4 p.m. Sunday in Parr Funeral Home, 447 W. Washington St. Suffolk, and other times at the residence of Charlotte and Lynn Pierce.

Both daughters knew that his loving caring, and understanding were surpassed by no one and that he was, beyond a doubt, the best &uot;Daddy&uot; in the world. In addition, there are three young men, his grandsons, who consider him the most wonderful &uot;Pa Pa&uot; ever.
