Yorkey has founded three new churches, worked as a hospital chaplain, and has been the director of volunteers for the American Red Cross and Director of Pastoral Care for the victims of Hurricane Floyd.

After the tragic terrorist attack of Sept 11, 2001, she was called to be a chaplain at the World Trade Center site in New York City where she counseled ironworkers, police officers, firefighters, and all other workers and volunteers participating in the rescue and recovery operation. Her book, &uot;Voice in the Wilderness: A Pastor’s Journal of Ground Zero,&uot; chronicles her time spent in and around the site and offers a message of hope and healing for all people in the face of tragedy, interspersed with her own reflections on life, death, healing and loving.

Yockey’s gift for helping others comes in part from personal experiences overcoming her own struggles: surviving the death of her first husband in her early 30s struggling through divorce in the 90’s and since 2000, living with lymphoma. She has lived in North Carolina for the past 34 years and is the mother of four grown children.

Callis said that since Yorkey will be sharing her own experiences of overcoming grief and personal struggles, her message should move them beyond the point where they are.

A book signing will also take place in the Fellowship Hall following the afternoon session.

&uot; There will be brochures available with the registration form attached. Please share our day with us, it could lead to spiritual comfort or bring someone to the Lord. If your or your church would like brochures or more information, please contact me at 539-7915,&uot; said Callis.

Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. on the day of the program and lunch will take place from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. However, the deadline is March 15 for the registration fee. Please make checks payable to Main Street UMW and mail to 520 Riverview Dr., Suffolk, Va. 23434 or you may mail it to Main Street United Methodist Church, 202 N. Main Street, Suffolk, Va. 23434.
