Virtley B. Jones

Virtley Ballard Jones, 90, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother of 704 Pitch Kettle Rd., Suffolk, died of heart failure Saturday, March 15, 2003, in Obici Hospital.

She was a native of Nansemond County, and a daughter of the late James and Mary Jane Ballard, and the widow of Allen W. Jones.

She was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church, where she sang in the Senior Choir and was a member of the Daughters Auxiliary and Willing Workers.

She is survived by her sister, Carlese Ballard Gardner; her seven children, Nancy Jones, Ruth Deloatch and Juanita Adams, all of Washington, D.C.; Audrey Backus of Williamsburg; Allen Jones of Waldorf, Md.; Brenda Boone of Virginia Beach; and Judith Shoulders, of Suffolk; 13 grandchildren, Robert, Jeffrey Roslyn, Lisa, Deneen, Andrea, Trent, Darryl, Allen Jr., Joey, Chris, Hope, and Bjorn; 13 great-grandchildren; one niece, Dorothy Lee Robinson of Philadelphia, Pa.; great-nieces and great-nephews; three sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law; and many other relatives and friends.

The funeral will be held at noon Saturday in St. Paul Baptist Church, 806 Lincoln Ave. (Boston). Elder C.V. Russell III, will conduct the service. Interment will be in Little Mt. Zion Cemetery.

A wake will be held from 7-8 p.m. Friday in Crocker Funeral Home. Flowers and other condolences may be sent to Crocker Funeral Home, 900 E. Washington St., Suffolk, Va..
