Churchland sweeps River at soccer

Both Nansemond River soccer teams fell to Churchland on a rain-soaked Friday night, with the girls losing 2-1 and the boys falling 6-0. The Warriors and Lady Warriors will attempt to regroup Tuesday against Bruton, with the girls heading away and the boys staying at River.

Field hockey camps open for registration

The girl’s field hockey league and camps are now holding registration.

All skill-levels ages 7-17 are invited to participate. The camps are in their fourth year.

There are two sessions.

The first session is from June 23- 27 and the second is from June 29-July 3.

The camps are run by USFHA Certified (Jr. Olympic) coach Tara McClenney, who coached Lakeland to the Southeastern district title the past two seasons. Several of her present and past athletes (now playing in college) help run the camps.

Girls will learn basic rules and fundamentals, defensive and offensive strategies and individual and team skills. Call 539-2277 or log on at girlsfieldhockey.net

Tillery Family Day set for April 5

The Suffolk Department of Parks and Recreation is sponsoring its annual C. Faye Tillery Family Day on Saturday, April 5. All-Star basketball teams from the local Teen, Church, and Women’s Basketball League will hit the courts of King’s Fork Recreation Center beginning at 10 a.m. Later, the Tillery family will square off with the Parks and Recreation Dept. staff. The event is held in remembrance of C. Faye Tillery, a Suffolk native and employee of the Parks and Rec. Dept. for 13 years. Call 923-2366 or 923-2367.
