Jesse J. Johnson Sr.

Jesse James &uot;J.J.&uot; Johnson Sr., 79, a longtime resident of Chuckatuck, died Friday, April 11, 2003.
A native of Suffolk, he was the widower of Allie Mae Harrell Johnson, and a son of the late William Jesse Johnson and Bessie Matthews Johnson.
He had retired as a machinist and crane operator at the Newport News Shipyard. He was also the co-owner and operator of Johnson’s Self-Service and Johnson’s Garage for 39 years in Chuckatuck.
He was former volunteer for the Chuckatuck Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Bessie Lynne Johnson of Suffolk; Mary Kathryn J. and Peter F. Bariteau of Norfolk; sons, Jesse J. Johnson Jr. and Linda T. Johnson of Suffolk; Phillip and Carol B. Johnson of Chesapeake; and Stephen H. Johnson of Norfolk; four grandchildren, Jennifer Paige Johnson, Jesse J. &uot;Tripp&uot; Johnson III, Phillip &uot;Taylor&uot; Johnson, Phillip Andrew Bariteau, and Lydia Elizabeth Bariteau.
The graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, in Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, by the Rev. Mark Burns and the Rev. Gretchen Nelson.
Friends may join the family from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday in Parr Funeral Home, and other times at the residence of Jesse J. Johnson Jr. and Linda T. Johnson at 2748 Windjammer Road.
