Jasper Daughtrey Jr.

Jasper Daughtrey Jr., 83, died April 20, 2003.

Born in Nansemond County, he was a son of the late Jasper Daughtrey Sr. and Susie Carson Daughtrey. Mr. Daughtrey was a farmer and had retired from Norfolk and Western Railroad at Portlock and Suffolk and was a former dispatcher for the Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Department. He was a lifetime member and past deacon of Beaver Dam Baptist Church where he was a member of the Men’s Bible Class and senior citizens group. Jasper was a member of the Carrsville Ruritan Club, the Carrsville Volunteer Fire Department and was well known as an excellent ticket salesman for both organizations.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Hazel Carr Daughtrey; a daughter, Janet D. Brinkley and her husband, Fred; two sons, Ronald C. Daughtrey and his wife, Ella, and Gary N. Daughtrey, all of Suffolk; a brother, E. Hunter Daughtrey of Suffolk; five grandchildren, Carlson L. Daughtrey, Lynsey B. Daughtrey, Kellie R. Daughtrey, Mary Beth Johnson and her husband Ryan, and Jill Brinkley and her fiance Jonathan Mizelle. He was predeceased by six sisters and one daughter, Donna Lynn Daughtrey.

The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Beaver Dam Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Richard L Peerey officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the residence and suggest that memorial gifts be made to Beaver Dam Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 3593 Carrsville Hwy., Franklin,Va. 23851. Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, has charge of arrangements.
