Over 30 Suffolk girl scouts knocked down the pins to raise money for the Council of Family Partnership Fund Saturday afternoon at the AMF Western Branch Bowling Center. Scouts from six of Suffolk’s troops raised over $200 for the fund, which helps girls from low-income families join the girl scouts by paying for their membership and helping them enroll in summer camps, babysitting, horseback riding, and other scout-oriented programs.

Next Saturday, Suffolkians will be able to see the scouts in action; they’ll be holding a Family Safety Day at King’s Fork Middle School (KFMS). Scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the event will teach locals about things such as water and fire safety and organ donation.

Riding the ponies is Laura Parker’s favorite pastime. &uot;That’s a lot of fun, but I love all the activities,&uot; said the KFMS student, 12. &uot;I came here today to see who would win.&uot;

Her older sister Amber had an answer. &uot;I’m going to beat everybody else – that’s when it’s the most fun!&uot; said the 13-year-old, an eight-year veteran of girl scout troop 792. &uot;It’s nice to help the Council, because they support everything we do. We get to have fun and raise money!&uot;
