Downtown Athletics holding Pop Warner signups

The Downtown Athletic Association will be holding registration for Pop Warner Football and cheerleading throughout May, June and July for boys and girls ages 5-15. From 6 to 7:30 p.m. on the following days, players can sign up at Birdsong Recreation Center:

May 13, 15, 20, 22

June 3, 5, 7, 10, 12, 14, 17, 19, 21, 24, 26, 30

Grovers reach TCIS tennis title match

Nate and Bart Grover of Nansemond-Suffolk Academy (NSA) won their first two matches at the TCIS tournament at Huntington Park in Newport News on Friday, heading into Saturday’s title match against second-ranked Andrew Down-ing and Eddie Carver of Norfolk Academy.

The NSA teams of Andrew Sullivan and Rhett Irby and Phillip Gaskins and Kevin Rountree lost their first matches but won their second, and would play for fifth place (results were not available at press time).

Relay to feature midnight Jazzercise!

At midnight on Saturday night, local Jzzercisers will show their skills at the Relay for Life at Nansemond-Suffolk Academy.

The style of exercise, which features a combination of aerobics, dancing, and moderate music, will be on display for the hundreds of participants, all of whom are invited to watch and participate.
