Hurrah for Ruritan!

The source of many a good deed goes unrecognized, which is often what the benefactor might prefer. Sometimes, you can’t help but see the handiwork of an individual or organization.
Ruritan is an example. This organization, which on Saturday celebrated the 75th anniversary of its founding, has contributed money, time and energy to improving not only Suffolk, but wherever Ruritans can be found in Virginia and beyond.
The Suffolk Ruritan Club, for example, observed its silver anniversary this past week. This is the group many know for cooking up shrimp for a feast each Peanut Festival. In the time the club has been preparing the savory seafood, the members have collected and distributed $576,000 back to Suffolk in the form of scholarships and the like.
Dedication is a hallmark of any Ruritan member, and Suffolk citizens have much to be thankful that such an organization began, appropriately, in Holland.
We look forward to publicizing the organization’s achievements in the years to come.
