Bettie Sue Pope, 98, of Suffolk, died Saturday, May 17, 2003 in Obici Hospital.

A native of Southampton County, she was the daughter of the late Louis Carroll and Rebecca Grant Carroll, and the widow of Joe Pope. She was predeceased by a son, James Louis Pope.

She had retired as a domestic worker, and was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

She is survived by two daughters, Betty Francis and Ada Barelift, both of Suffolk; three sons, Robert Pope and William Lawrence Pope, both of Suffolk; and Willie Joe Pope of Killeen, Texas; 27 grandchildren; 71 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

The memorial service will be held at 5:30 p.m Wednesday, May 21, in Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, White Marsh Road, with Brother Solomon Darden presiding. Visitation with the family will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in Crocker Funeral Home.

Friends and family are asked to assemble by 5:15 p.m. in Kingdom Hall.
