Southampton County man announces candidacy

A Southampton County man has tossed his name in the ring for the state’s 18th District Senate seat.
Walter D. &uot;Walt&uot; Brown, a retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel and Southampton County native, was tapped to run on the Republican ticket against incumbent Sen. Louise Lucas, D-Portsmouth. He was nominated by the 4th Congressional District Republican Committee.
Brown, who holds a master’s degree in logistic management from the Florida Institute of Technology, is a Baptist minister. He is an associate pastor at Diamond Grove Baptist Church in Franklin.
The 18th district includes the counties of Nottoway, Greensville, and Sussex and parts of Suffolk, Portsmouth, Franklin and Chesapeake, and the counties of Isle of Wight, Southampton, Brunswick and Lunenburg.
