Irie L. Bailey

Irie Lee Bailey, 90, of Suffolk, died Tuesday, June 10, 2003.
Born on Dec. 25, 1912 in Southampton County, Va., he was a son of the late Emma Britt and Ernest Bailey. He was predeceased by his first wife Marie Bailey; three brothers, Marvin, Raymond M. Elle H. Bailey, and sister, Jenevelyn Westnedge.
Irie retired in 1977 from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a structural general foreman in Public Works, where he had worked for 40 years.
He was a member of the West End Baptist Church where he was a deacon emeritus, a former choir member, a member of the Progressive Men’s Bible Class and former Sunday School superintendent. He was a member of Nansemond Masonic Lodge No. 77 and the Royal Arch Chapter No. 20.
Survivors include his wife, Rillie H. Bailey; three daughters, Brenda B. Jenkins, and her husband, Tommy, of Bridgewater; Evelyn O Carter of Suffolk; and Linda O. Miller of Garland, Texas; sister, Lell B. Kinsey of Suffolk; brothers, George Randolph Bailey of Suffolk, and Russell Bailey of Richmond; four grandchildren, two great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in West End Baptist Church by the Rev. T. Floyd Irby, with burial in Holly Lawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the R.W. Baker and Co. Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to the Nansemond-Suffolk Rescue Squad, P.O.
