Boone, Roberts are Les Gemmes scholars

The constant downpour did not stop more than 200 people from attending The Suffolk Les Gemmes fourth dinner theatre of the Herman Clark Jr. production of

&uot;Maggie Fly Is Back In Town.&uot; The program was held at Temple Beth El on Bridge Rd.

The organization also named its two scholarship recipients for 2003 during the program

The main purpose of the dinner theater was to raise money for the Suffolk Les Gemmes Inc. Scholarship Fund.

Latoya D. Boone, and Jonathan Roberts received $500 each from the Gemmes. Both Boone and Roberts are honor graduates at Lakeland High School.

Boone plans to attend A&T University in the fall to pursue a career in engineering. She is the daughter of Leon and Vanessa Boone of Suffolk.

Roberts plans to attend Norfolk State University in the fall to pursue a career in computer science engineering. He is the son of Maryland Roberts.

The Suffolk Chapter of Les Gemmes Inc. Scholarship Fund distributes applications to high schools in the area in January and requires them to be returned in April.

The Suffolk organization has 11 members with Audrey Knight serving as president. It was inducted into the national organization in the spring of 1977.
