Capping ceremony held for Obici’s School of Practical Nursing class

On June 18, 2003, the Suffolk Public Schools/Obici Hospital School of Practical Nursing held the capping ceremony for the Class of 2004.

The ceremony recognizes the successful completion of the students’ pre-clinical period and the beginning of their clinical rotations and more extensive patient care. Their clinical study will be conducted at Obici Hospital, local nursing homes, the health department and other health care facilities.

Newly capped practical nursing students are: Dawn Brock, Suffolk; Crystal Burgess-Armel, Portsmouth; Jennifer Eykyn, Chesapeake; Stephanie Kitchen, Suffolk; LaShon Lassiter, Ahoskie, N.C.; Karen McInnis, Chesapeake; Cris Salmon, Chesapeake; Sharrie Swiderski, Suffolk; Sally Varnier, Courtland; Susan Vick, Capron; Ronald Whitley, Sedley; Joseph Williams, Newport News; Jean Zimmerly, Portsmouth.

The School of Practical Nursing is a one-year program that begins each February. Applications are currently being taken for the class that will begin in February, 2004. Graduates are eligible to take the licensing exam, National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN) upon graduation and are eligible for articulation programs to colleges.
