Annie Bell Mizell Pope, a daughter of the late Harry and Pinky Mizell, died in her sleep on Thursday, June 19, 2003, after a very brief illness.
Annie was loved by many people. She was a very compassionate person who was the first one on the scene when there was sickness or death among her family, friends and even strangers. Annie left a very loving impression on mostly every one who came in contact with her. Most of all, she enjoyed cooking and she was well known for being one of the best cooks around town. She truly loved all of her family members.
She leaves to mourn four children: one son, Joe Louis Pope Sr. of Suffolk; three daughters, Carol (Wayne) and Carliss David, all of Portsmouth; and Connie (Alvester) of Newport News,; 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, one loving and devoted sister, Myrtle Ruffin of Suffolk; three sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other family, and friends.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses on White Marsh Road in Suffolk.
Viewing will be held at Abraham Applewhite & Sons Funeral Home, 540 E. Constance Rd., Suffolk.
Condolences can be shared with the family at the home of her sister, Myrtle Ruffin, at 2356 Lake Cohoon Road (Mizell Town in Suffolk), phone 539-0430.
Family and friends can also assemble at the home of her daughter, Carol Moody, 12222 Coltrance Dr., Portsmouth, 558-3992.
After the funeral, family and friends can meet at the home of her sister, Myrtle Ruffin to enjoy fellowship and a great meal.
