Lawrence Chambliss Sr.

Lawrence Chambliss Sr., son of the late Florence Chambliss, was born April 24, 1947. The Lord called him home Thursday, June 19, 2003, at his home at 400 Oak St., Suffolk. He was employed at Norshipco for 28 years, and was a member of Antioch United Church of Christ.
He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 34 years, Elnora B. Chambliss; two sons, Lawrence Chambliss Jr. (Lotortia) and Emory Chambliss (Teanna); two daughters, Christie L. Chambliss (Kerry) and Nuressa F. Chambliss (Amos); four sisters, Vivian Chambliss-Brown, Jacquelyn Chambliss-Holmes, Yumeko Yates, and Tracey Jackson (Andre), all of Suffolk; six brothers, Lee A. Chambliss (Mary), Bernard W. Chambliss, Sebastian Yates, Micheal R. Chambliss (Alethia), all of Suffolk; Calvin V. Chambliss (Yvonne) of Plantation, Fla., and Larry Goodman of Virginia Beach; two aunts, Sarah Winborne (Clifton) and Laura Howell of Suffolk; sisters-in-law, Deloris B. Hayes (Leon) of Suffolk, and Shirley Anderson of Emporia; a very special nephew, Henry L. Bennett; his caregiver, Cynthia Drayton; special family members, Kim Copeland and Melinda Debrew; six grandchildren; and several family and friends.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, in Antioch United Church of Christ by the Rev. Jarvis Jones. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery.
The body be placed in the church at noon Tuesday.
