Staff report
Suffolk City Council members and city staff will travel to Virginia Beach Wednesday prior to their regular, 7 p.m. meeting to tour that city’s newest library facility.
According to City Manager Steve Herbert, it is hoped Council members can benefit as they decide on a design and services for the Northern Suffolk Library. The Virginia Beach library has not been opened.
Herbert said the city is in the initial phases of identifying a site for the library.
&uot;The new Virginia Beach library is being touted as a prototype for future library facilities,&uot; Herbert s stated in a July 10 letter to Council members. &uot;Some of the features include a computer lab, a drive through window, designated meeting/reading areas for children and teens, and self service for checking out books and materials.&uot;
Council members will leave Suffolk at 1:30. The tour will be in lieu of their regular work session.
&uot;We anticipate the site visit to the library will provide City Council with valuable information that will be helpful as we proceed through the design and construction of the new North Suffolk Library,&uot; Herbert said.
