Ralph B. Smith Sr.

Ralph Barker Smith Sr., 80, of Suffolk, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003, in Nansemond Pointe.
Born on Oct. 1, 1922, in Appomattox, he was a son of the late Mima Barker and Charles Garland Smith Sr.
Retired from dairy farming, he was past president of the Virginia State Dairymen’s Association and the Virginia Holstein Association.
He was a past president of Elephant’s Fork Ruritan Club and a former member of the Suffolk Rotary Club. He was a member of Oakland Christian Church, and a former member and deacon of Suffolk Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Jackson Smith; daughter, Barbara S. Tabb, her husband, Jon, of Prince George County; son, Ralph B. &uot;Steve&uot; Smith Jr., his wife, Rebecca, of Lynchburg; sister, Winnie Ruth Johnson of Bristol; brothers, C.G. Smith Jr. of Clifton; Richard L. Smith of Kingsport, Tenn.; and Jack F. Smith of Fairfield; grandchildren, Melisa Strader, her husband, Scott; Kristen Hurlocker, her husband, Paul; Kelly Thomas; Katie Floyd, her husband, Jacob; Charles R. Smith; and five great-grandchildren.
The memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Suffolk Christian Church by the Rev. Michael Halley and the Rev. Mark Burns. Burial will in Holly Lawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday in the R.W. Baker and Co. Funeral Home and Crematory.
