Suffolk Emergency Management Coordinator Jim Judkins has issued another weather alert, and he’s asking local citizens to take precautions against today’s dreaded &uot;Triple H&uot; threat – hot, humid, and hazy – as temperatures head toward the triple-digit mark again.

Hot temperatures and high levels of humidity remain a potentially deadly duo, and Judkins said today is expected to be one of the hottest days this summer.

&uot;We are experiencing an area of high pressure that has ushered in the warmest air of the season,&uot; said the captain. &uot;Yesterday’s temperatures were in the mid-90s and today we expect the same.&uot;

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will be hot through at least Thursday with much cooler air set to move in Friday and Saturday behind a cold front.

&uot;Our heat index values today will be 100 to 105 degrees across south central and Southside, interior Tidewater, Virginia, and inland portions of northeastern North Carolina.&uot;

Judkins said it is extremely important to keep your body hydrated by drinking plenty of water before, during and after spending time outdoors.

&uot;Especially during the heat of the day… mid-afternoon,&uot; he said. &uot;Actually, it is best to reduce or reschedule strenuous activities to a cooler time of day. For those who must work in the heat, just be extremely cautious and drink plenty of water.&uot;

Judkins also urged caution concerning children and pets. He said neither of them should ever be left in a vehicle.

&uot;Even with the windows rolled down, temperatures can rise well over 100 degrees in a vehicle within just a few minutes,&uot; he said.
