John J. Porter Sr.

John &uot;Bug&uot; Junious Porter Sr., 62, of Windsor, a native of Isle of Isle of Wight County, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2003 in Obici Hospital.

He was a faithful member of Holly Grove A.M.E. Church, and had worked for the Newport News shipyard for 21 years, and Gwaltney Meat Packing company for 18 years.

He leaves to cherish his memory his two daughters, Cebrena D. Pollard (Mark) of Suffolk; and Cynthia Savage of Hampton; two sons, Elder John J. Porter Jr.(Andrea) of Hampton; and Minister Stacy R. Porter(Teresa) of New Orleans, La.; four sisters, Juanita Fleetwood of Windsor; Mary Alice Taylor of Smithfield; Rachel Jackson and Evelyn Pittman, both of Suffolk; two brothers, James E. Porter and Harvey Porter, both of Windsor; 10 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; a loving devoted friend, Catherine Diggs of 20 years; and many other caring friends.

The funeral will be held noon Monday Sept. 1, in Holly Grove A.M.E. Church, Windsor, with Rev. Charlotte A. Sydnor officiating.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Viewing will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday in Cooke Bros.-Shivers Funeral Chapel, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
