Sorority to honor 9 citizens

Nine citizens from various cities in the state of Virginia will be recognized at the Omega Chapter of Chi Eta Phi Sorority Inc. Tenth Annual Porter-Ward-Vann Memorial Scholarship Banquet on Sunday, Oct. 12 in Temple Beth-El, which is located at 39727 Bridge Rd.
The purpose is to honor several Hampton Roads citizens who have made a difference in the quality of life within their communities through their personal contributions.
&uot;We refer to such persons as &uot;Family Foundations,&uot; said Opah West, group spokesperson.
Those people who will receive the &uot;2003 Family Foundations Awards&uot; are Lula Copeland, Rosa Hicks, Karen Jenkins, Maddie Vann, and Joan Watford, all from Suffolk; Betty Overby from Chesapeake; Ann Sharpe from Portsmouth; Ernestine Davis from Norfolk; and Eileen Thorne from Richmond.
&uot;In addition to recognizing these positive role models the banquet is also sponsored to raise money for
scholarships for students who are enrolled in schools of professional nursing,&uot; said West.
Tickets for the dinner are $25 each. The deadline for purchasing them is on Saturday, Oct. 6.
