A Suffolk man charged with killing his 8-month-old daughter last year was sentenced Thursday to 40 years in prison.
Jamaine D. Rodgers, 23, was arrested on Nov. 8, 2002, after authorities arriving at his Wellons Street home found him holding his dead infant daughter, LaKayla. The baby’s mother, Angela M. Knight, called police after arriving home to find that the child wasn’t breathing.
Rodgers received 40 years in prison for second-degree murder; with 15 years of that sentence was suspended. He was also given a 5-year suspended sentence for felony child abuse and neglect and a suspended 12-month sentence for failing to secure medical attention for a child.
