After over a year of construction, the Suffolk Youth Athletic Association’s new fields were open for play last Saturday across from Diamond Springs Park on King’s Fork Road (above). After the league and its 800+ participants outgrew its original 20-acre sight, construction began on the new field in Spring 2002, with seeding taking place last September. Sponsors for the job included Birdsong Peanuts, Cacov, Turner Foundation, Richard Bennett Trust, and the Suffolk Ruritans, with equipment, design services and technical advice supplied by Sunbelt Rentals, Commonwealth Engineering Group, Art Ray Corp., Scott’s Corporation, and Arc Electric.
