Chums bestow scholarship

A Lakeland High School 2003 graduate was named a recipient of a $500 scholarship from the Chums Club of Suffolk.
Landria D. Bynum, 18, is an active member of Metropolitan Baptist Church on County Street. She has been accepted to Norfolk State University for the fall 2003 semester with an academic program of pre-associate in nursing in the School of Science and Technology.
Bynum is the daughter of Denise Bynum of Suffolk. Her maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Bradley Sr., and paternal grandmother is Evangeline Bynum, all of Suffolk.
The Chums Club, one of the oldest in Suffolk, was chartered during the school year 1937-38 with Mary Reid serving as president and Sharon Jones as vice president.
Bertha Crocker is chairman of the Scholarship Committee. Other members of the committee are Ernestine Langston, Perthenia Robinson and Gladys Wynn.
