Mary Kemple Sutphin, Pretlow Henderson wed in St. John’s Episcopal

Mary Kemple Sutphin and Joshua Pretlow Henderson were married Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at 5 o’clock in the evening at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Suffolk.
A reception was held following the ceremony at The Smithfield Center in Smithfield.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Kemple Sutphin of Raleigh, N.C.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Burr Henderson III of Suffolk.
The bride is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Edward Sutphin of Beckley, W.Va., and Governor and Mrs. Hulett Carlson Smith of Beckley, and the late Charles Scott Lewis Jr.
The groom is the grandson of Mrs. Bert Burr Henderson Jr. of Suffolk, and the late Bert Burr Henderson Jr., and Mrs. Joshua Pretlow of Suffolk, and the late Joshua Pretlow.
The bride was given in marriage by her father.
Rebecca Boone Sutphin served as maid of honor.
Bridesmaids were Elizabeth Hamilton McLamb, Emily Caroline Perry, Denson Anne Pretlow, Amanda Gray Puckett, Elizabeth Kelly Reilly, and Katherine Elizabeth Withers.
Bert Burr Henderson III served as his son’s best man.
Groomsmen were John Neal Cary III, Ray Eley Duke III, Bert Burr Henderson IV, Stephen Boyd Riggs, Rohan George Sabapathypillai, and John Wilbur Stealey.
The bride is a graduate of Millbrook High School and Meredith College.
She is pursuing her teaching license at North Carolina State University.
The groom is a graduate of Nansemond-Suffolk and Virginia Polytechnic Institute.
He is employed as a senior technical consultant for Clarkston Consulting.
After a wedding trip to St. Lucia, the couple will live in Cary, N.C.
