Whelen scores four, Vidarte two (!) in 8-1 win

Patrick Whelen scored four goals and Joe Vidarte (normally a goalkeeper) two as Nansemond-Suffolk Academy charged to its biggest victory of the season Wednesday, an 8-1 defeat of host Alliance Christian. Willis Taylor and Daniel Curran also scored for the Saints.
Nansemond-Suffolk’s tennis team wasn’t as lucky, falling 7-2 to Norfolk Academy.
Nansemond River, Lakeland fall in volleyball
Both Suffolk high school volleyball teams were swept on Thursday, as Nansemond River’s girls and boys fell to Deep Creek and Lakeland’s teams lost to Indian River.
Local AAU boys basketball teams holding tryouts
Workout sessions for the Suffolk Blazers 12 and Under AAU basketball team will take from 6 to 8 p.m. place on Tuesdays starting Oct 21 at Oakland Recreation Center, with tryouts scheduled for mid-November. Parks and Rec. gymnastic class starts Oct. 20
Suffolk Parks and Recreation is offering Gymnastics for children ages 4-11. Children will learn floor routines, basic balance beam walks, jumps, kicks, and rolls. Classes will be offered at Mack Benn Recreation Center on Mondays from Oct. 20 to Nov. 24.
The 4-6 year old class is 6-7 p.m. and 7-11 year old class is 7-8 p.m. For more information, call Mack Benn Recreation Center at 538-1387.
