Eley O. P. Demiel was born on Oct. 30, 1895 in Nansemond County and celebrated her 108th birthday on Friday at Autumn Care of Suffolk.

Demiel is a retiree from domestic work and attributes her longevity to living by the Bible and putting God first in her life.

Her hobbies include eating sweets, going to church and reading poems and her favorite color is purple.

Demiel has one son, 11 stepchildren, 53 grandchildren, over 100 great grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren.

She is a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church
