A Suffolk native, Jarratt Webb, is currently in manager training for one of the nation’s largest building materials retailers, 84 Lumber Company.

Webb, the son of Joe and Nancy Webb, also of Suffolk, is training at the company’s Falling Creek store near Richmond. He is a 1999 graduate of Nansemond-Suffolk Academy, and he received a degree from Randolph Macon College this year.

As a manager trainee, Webb is responsible for sales, estimating and material takeoffs, performing in-store merchandising and maintaining store and yard appearance.

Founded in 1956 by Joe Hardy in the town of Eight Four, Pa., about 20 miles south of Pittsburgh, 84 Lumber currently operates 450 stores in 34 states, opening their first lumberyard in 1956. The company has steadily grown to a business that has generated over $2 billion in sales in 2002. Approximately 75 percent of the sales total comes from professional builders and remodelers.

84 Lumber Company was named Pro Dealer of the Year for 2003 at the 7th Annual Pro Dealer Conference, and the company presented the Boy Scout Council of Westmoreland / Fayette with a check for $72,780.00 during the 14th Annual Joe Hardy / 84 Lumber Golf Invitational.

The company recently awarded over $100 thousand in scholarships this year alone.
