Mary P. Rose

After a long courageous battle with cancer, Mary Josephine Pope Rose, 64, of 113 Forest Glen Dr., Suffolk, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003.

A native of Southampton County, she was the widow of Bruce Abbott Rose after 44 years of marriage. She was the daughter of the late Charlie Heber Pope and Mary E. Whitley Pope, and was also predeceased by her sister, Beatrice Pope Saunders and a grandson, William Bruce Rose.

She had retired from Louise Obici Memorial Hospital after 18 years of service. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and the Sarah Powell Sunday School Class.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Teresa R. and Paul Parker of Suffolk; sons and daughters-in-law, Lloyd H. and Teresa M. Rose, Bruce M. and Hope G. Rose, and W. Troy Rose, all of Suffolk; a sister, Thelma P. Raiford of Suffolk; brothers, Robert Earl Pope of Arronia, Va.; and Clayton H. Pope of Suffolk; 10 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Liberty Baptist Church with the Rev. T.A. Powell officiating. Interment will be in Buckhorn Baptist Church Cemetery, Como, N.C.

The family will receive visitors from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday in Harrell and Hill Funeral Home, and other times at 113 Forest Glen Dr.
