Otis L. Grant Sr.

At 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003, in Obici Hospital, Mr. Otis Lee Grant Sr. departed this life.

Born in Nansemond County, he was a son of the late Shirley and Elizabeth Aime Grant. He was also preceded in death by a son, Otis Lee Grant Jr.

Grant at an early age joined Pulaski Baptist Church.

He served as a lieutenant in the Korean War.

Mr. Grant was born and raised in Carrsville, where he was united in marriage to Josephine T. Grant for 49 years.

He was assistant minister at St. Timothy Baptist Church.

He was employed at Planters Peanut Co., from which he retired after 40 years of service. Mr. Grant, after retirement, continued to serve his community by providing transportation through United Taxi Cab Co.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and godfather. He was very dependable and loyal to his family, friends and church.

His survivors include his wife, Josephine T. Grant; five daughters, Tyris Skinner, Sarah Lamberson, Crystal Towns, all of Suffolk; Sandra Blount of Elizabeth, Ky.; and Cheryl Hartwell of Newport News; one son, Glen T. Grant of Suffolk; four sons-in-law, Jerome Lamberson, Cornelius Towns, Jeffrey Hartwell, all of Suffolk; and Gerald Blount of Elizabeth; two daughters-in-law, Sharita Grant and Wendy Grant, both of Franklin; two sisters, Elaine Boone of Carrsville; and Easter Johnson of Franklin; four brothers, John Grant and Melvin Grant, both of Carrsville; Shirley Grant of New Jersey; and Phillip Grant of Smithfield; one brother-in-law, Larry Johnson; three sisters-in-law, Rosa Grant of Carrsville; Mary Leetha of New Jersey; and Catherine Grant of Smithfield; a goddaughter, Bonnie Scott of Suffolk; 21 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, in St. Timothy Baptist Church. Pastor Thomas Harden Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery.

There will be a wake from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday in the church. There will be no viewing.

The body will be placed at 10 a.m. Saturday in the church.
