Former Warrior makes All-Conference at Averett

Anthony Morris, a graduate of Nansemond River now at Averett University, was named to the All-USA South Conference team. Morris was third on the team with 63 tackles, but was first in the league with four interceptions. He returned two of those interceptions for touchdowns, including a game-winner against Methodist.
Morris earned national recognition that week, as he was named to the D3football.com’s Team of the Week, and also named the Don Hansen’s Football Gazette’s Defensive player of the Week. The team recorded a record of 5-4, its first-ever winning season.

Suffolk driver wins Arena Racing heat
Local Kerry Gilbert took first place in the B Main race in Saturday night’s Arena Racing USA event at the Norfolk Scope to qualify for the Top Dog race. C.E. Falk of Virginia Beach, who finished second in the A Main event, won the overall race.
Local runner wins age group in Va. Beach 5K race
Suffolkian Barbara Stark won the 50-59 Women’s Age Group in the 4-H Barnyard 5K race in Virginia Beach on Sunday, coming in with a time of 27:31. In other local racing news, Anastasia Trent of Suffolk pulled up second in the 25-29 Women’s age group in the Get Ready for Turkey 8K at the Norfolk Botanical Gardens, also Sunday, with a time of 36:10.
Whitson holes out – in one!
Jimmy Whitson of Suffolk headed south to the Pointe in Powells Point, N.C. and aced the 152-yard fourteenth hole with a nine-iron recently.
Local AAU boys basketball teams holding tryouts

Lakeland to hold Fall Sports Banquet Dec. 4
Lakeland High School will hold its Fall Sports Banquet at 7 p.m. Dec. 4.
Awards for cross-country, football, field hockey and cheerleading will be given out.
