Anona G. Howell

Anona Gibson Johnson Howell, 98, of Suffolk, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003. Born on Sept. 10, 1905, in Nansemond County, she was the daughter of the late Lou Emma Johnson and John Aaron Johnson, and the widow of Jethro Jackson Howell Sr.
Mrs. Howell served 10 years as den mother of Pack 1 of Main Street United Methodist Church. She also served as a private duty nurse’s aide, and a salesclerk at B.D. Laderburg. She was a member of First Baptist Church, the Senior Choir of the church, and Dorcas Class of the church. Mrs. Howell attended Longwood College, and was a member of AARP and American Legion Post Auxiliary of Suffolk.
Survivors include her son, Jethro Jackson Howell Jr., and wife, Patricia H., of Knoxville, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Donna Howell Russell of Simpsonville, S.C., Jethro Jackson &uot;Jack&uot; Howell III of Albemarle, N.C., and A. Marie Fiore of Knoxville; eight great-grandchildren, Jackie Lynn Howell, Whitney Kim Howell, Nicole Hope Fiore, Jacob Zackary Russell, Amber Katelyn Howell, John Michael Fiore, Alexandria Rose Fiore, Hannah Elizabeth Russell; nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friend, Debra Daniels.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the R.W. Baker and Co. Funeral Home and Crematory by the Rev. Charles W. Thompson, with burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
