Smith Anderson

Smith Anderson, 81, of 443 West Spicer Avenue, Wildwood, N.J., died Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, in Burdette Memorial Hospital, Cape May Courthouse.

A native of Laurens County, Ga., he was son of the late Melzina May Anderson and Prince Albert Anderson, and the widower of Ozella.

He received a BS degree from Virginia State College, and had retired from the Wicomic board of Education, Salisbury, Md., where he had been employed as an industrial arts teacher and administrator.

He was a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, Suffolk and a former member of First Baptist-Holy Trinity Church, Salisbury. He attended Angel Visit Baptist Church of Wildwood.

He was a World War II Navy veteran and a longtime member of the NAACP.

He was an avid fisherman.

His survivors include a son, Martin K. Anderson of Courtland; a daughter, Joann Jackson (George) of Wildwood; three sisters, Olivia Williams (James) of Suffolk; Arzulia O’Neal of Lawnside, N.J.; and Claudia Homier of Middleton, Del.; one brother, Albert Anderson of Courtland; six grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral will be held at noon Tuesday, Dec. 16, in Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, with the Rev. Joseph Goode officiating. Interment will be in Laurel Hill United Church of Christ Cemetery.

Crocker Funeral Home, Suffolk, is handling arrangements.
