On Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, Clyde Ellis Whitaker was called home to eternal rest. He was the son of the late Seth and Marian Whitaker. Clyde was employed by Planters Peanuts of Suffolk, and was co-owner and proprietor of the Suffolk Lunch Room.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn W. Whitaker; six children, Clyde Ellis Whitaker, Brenda Dorsey, Sharon Law, Gary Whitaker, Clyde Boone, and Ryan Hardy; a sister, Vivian Whitaker Russell; a brother, Calvin Wesley Whitaker; an uncle, David Whitaker; an aunt, Mary Whitaker; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 12, in Little Mt. Zion Baptist Church. The Rev. Franklin Williams will officiate. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. Viewing will be held Sunday in Crocker Funeral Home, and the body will be placed in the church from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Monday. Following the interment, the repast will be at Little Mt. Baptist Church. Crocker Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
