John H. Beamon Jr., 81, formerly of 524 Hollywood Ave., Suffolk, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, in Autumn Care of Suffolk.

A native of Nansemond County, he was the son of the late John H. Beamon Sr. and Mamie B. Beamon.

He had retired as a self-employed carpenter. He was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of Metropolitan Baptist Church, where he served as a trustee.

He is survived by two sons, John H. Beamon III, and his wife, Allean, of Virginia Beach, and Larry Beamon of Greensboro, N.C.; five grandchildren, Starla Beamon, Shannon Beamon, Justin Beamon, Chandler Beamon, and Jameson Brown; one aunt, Marjorie Evans of Washington, D.C.; three sisters-in-law, Adelaide Biggs Montgomery, Elnora Biggs and Naomi Biggs; and several cousins and friends.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, in Metropolitan Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Robert Hobbs. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery.

The family will assemble at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in Crocker Funeral Home, which is handling arrangements.
