Michael L. Gates, 34, of 1107 Forest Oak Lane, Suffolk, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004, in Sentara Leigh Hospital, Norfolk.

He was born in Suffolk, and was a son of Trina Hawks Gates and the late Roland Gates Jr.

He is survived by his mother, Trina H. Gates of Suffolk; a brother, Roland Gates II, and his wife, Shelia, of Suffolk; maternal grandmother, Arletta Hawks of Chesapeake; paternal grandmother, Endie Gates of Suffolk; two nephews, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, in Rising St. James Pentecostal Holiness Church by Bishop Dwight Whitfield. Interment will be in Holly Lawn Cemetery.
