Donald Gilbert Roberts Sr., 60, of the 7000 block of Indian Trail Road, Suffolk, died Tuesday, March 2, 2004.

A native of Sullivan, Ind., he was the son of the late Gilbert Arnold and Juanita Dozier Roberts. He had retired as a maintenance mechanic for the Department of Veterans Affairs in Pineville, La. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and was a member of its Seniors Men Bible Class and a choir member. He was ordained a deacon in 1986 at Pearl Acres Missionary Baptist Church in Slidell, La.

He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War and was a member of C.H.B.I.

Donald loved the Lord and was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Mary Annette Roberts of Suffolk; a daughter, Tiffany M. Roberts of Suffolk; sons and daughter-in-law, Donald G. Roberts Jr., and wife, Brenda C. Roberts; Thomas A. Roberts and George A. Roberts, all of Suffolk; two grandchildren, Donald G. Roberts III and Becca M. Roberts of Suffolk; and sister, Sue R. Brandle of Avon, Fla.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Hillcrest Baptist Church with the Rev. Douglas W. Gibson officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Nansemond-Suffolk Cemetery.

Friends may join the family from 7 to 8 p.m. today in Parr Funeral Home.
